The Blue Ridge Young Birders Club Field Trips
The Blue Ridge Young Birders (BRYBC) offers a wide range of field trips varying in length from several hours to all day, and sometimes even weekend adventures. Field Trips highlight seasonal specialities and hotspots. New birders are always welcome and seasoned young birders are always eager to share their knowledge and help a new birder develop their identification skills. Binoculars and a field guide are recommended. Please let us know If you wish to join us on a field trip but do not have a pair binoculars. The club has several loaner pairs that are available to be loaned out for field trips.
Transportation and Carpooling: BRYBC is not responsible nor liable for your child's transportation. It is the parents responsibility to make sure that their kids have rides for each field trip, however we encourage carpooling, Parents generally take turns driving so that not all of the transportation falls on the same parents each time. However, participation in a car pool is at the sole discretion and responsibility of the parent. It is the parents job to assure the safe transport of their children on field trips. BRYBC does not screen driving records of the adults offering to drive the kids.
If you are carpooling, please consider making a small $ contribution to the driver to cover the cost of gas for the field trip.
Carpooling details:
Please let the designated leader of each specific trip know if you are attending their trip, and whether or not your parent can drive. If your parent is unable to drive, one of the other parents may have room in the car for you, but this is not guaranteed. The trip leader will be happy to let you know if there is room in another car, and if not, you will be placed on a wait list.
Age of Participation: BRYBC field trips are open to all club members ages 7 and older who demonstrate an ability to bird quietly alongside their peers without disturbing the enjoyment of birds by the other members. **Young Birders eleven years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.**
Please note that some longer field trips are all day long, or require a lot of time in a car driving from location to location. Please choose field trips best suited for your enjoyment.
