The PVCC Bluebird Trail

Each week throughout spring and summer a club member checks each box on the bluebird trail and takes note of any nest construction, number of eggs laid, number of chicks hatched or fledged, as well as the species of bird using the box.   By filing weekly reports which are summarized and submitted at the end of the season to the Virginia Bluebird Society, the information becomes part of a national database that helps scientists plan the direction of conservation efforts.

The PVCC Bluebird trail was adopted by the Blue Ridge Young Birders in the spring of 2013. Through a generous grant from the  Virginia Bluebird Society and the mentoring by county coordinator Ann Dunn  the young birders upgraded the trail and learned proper monitoring protocol.
